The 12 challenges for Europe

1. International Relations

Achieving peace

«Peace is not the absence of war; it's a virtue, a state of mind, a will of benevolence, trust and justice»

1. International Relations
Though Spinoza uttered these words as early as the 17th century, they are as relevant today in summing up the current situation of Europe. Though the fighting has stopped and we have made a lot of progress, if we look at Belfast, Cyprus and the Balkan states, we realise that we still have a long way to go.

The Europe we know, as it emerged after the German-French reconciliation, needs a plan of attack to build a better community.
We need to put all our energy into encouraging efforts, relaunching dialogues and organising meetings; especially between radical thinkers.
Whether we are members of the IRA, come from Emerald Island, from Hungary or Slovakia, Croatia or Slovenia, Macedonia or Greece, Cyprus or Kosovo, or whether we are Serbs from Bosnia; we all share the same future.

Instead of focusing on what divides us, let's look with a fresh perspective at what brings us together. Our generation has been lucky enough to not live through a war, and we are now in a better situation than ever... to "achieve peace".
