Generation 112

A European association

What is Generation 112?
Generation 112 is an independent European association whose aim is to make Euro-democracy, as we call it, more concrete. We aim to play a role in the creation of a European public sphere, which encompasses everything from politics, media, civil society and public opinion.
More than 50 years after the beginning of the European integration process, the European project clearly needs a new start. Today it is more necessary than ever to exchange our views, to discuss and to tackle the European questions. That is what Generation 112 sets out to do.

Generation 112: Where does the name come from?
We’ll start with the term “Generation”. We are not setting out to have the younger generation confront the older, but are more about encouraging discussion amongst us Europeans about our real-life experiences with Europe, about the events that happen around us and our aspirations. We are really representing the interests of the European generation that has emerged after the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989 and for which Europe is the only possible way forward.
The number 112 is a direct reference to Europe, as it is the main emergency telephone number shared by European countries. With the number 112 we are not only referring to Europe, but the state of emergency that it is in. The question of European democracy needs to be urgently addressed. It is even “the” issue of the following weeks months and years. That’s why we appeal to everyone to urgently take action. Generation 112 aims to dig deeper into current affairs (1), to identify the challenges facing Europe (2) and to take more concrete actions (3) that contribute to the achievement of Euro-democracy.

Why has Generation 112 been founded?
Generation 112 was officially founded in August 2009 by Adrian Pantev and Erwan Quinio. Their idea was to establish a platform from which they could launch a “wake-up call” for Europe. Their aim was to identify the key European issues and commit themselves to these issues in a collaborative effort with others.
Since then, Generation 112 team has grown with each project. We now want to put all our energy together in order to take actions and to develop networks on a European level.
Two years on since Generation 112 was founded, our ambition stays the same: to think outside the box about the European issues we are faced with, and to discuss and analyse these issues from our own angle.
Generation 112 is not linked to a national or European political party. Our association comprises a whole network of people with different nationalities and different political orientations who would like to create a new dynamic for Europe.

The organisation of Generation 112
The organizational chart of Generation 112 contains an administrative board, a board of executives and a general assembly. More details on the competencies of the different bodies can be found in the association’s official rules of procedure.

Generation 112 is organised on a European level, with the head office in Brussels. Our young and dynamic team aims at developing local groups all over Europe.
